Eat like a local during Bradenton Area River Regatta.
There are a bunch of reasons to attend Saturday’s Bradenton Area River Regatta. And as someone who spends a whole lot of time dining in downtown Bradenton, let me offer some suggestions on where and what to eat within walking distance of the Manatee River. Because, really, you can do better than just a bland burger from a random vendor.
Pier 22: Downtown Bradenton’s sole waterfront restaurant has something for everyone including a full sushi menu featuring my current fave: the South of the Border roll (yellowtail tuna, togarashi, lime aioli, all “super crunched”). Also, don’t miss out on the daily happy hour deals from 3 to 7 p.m. Info: 941-748-8087; pier22dining.com
Mattison’s City Grille Bradenton Riverwalk: Nestled behind the Riverwalk’s sand volleyball courts, the new restaurant by Sarasotan Paul Mattison (he took over the location in December) has the highly addictive “High Plains Bison Poutine,” featuring grilled bison over crispy fries, with roasted onions and mushroom cream. Corwin’s Ice Cream and Smoothies: Part of the Twin Dolphin Marina that also includes Pier 22, Corwin’s is right by the Riverwalk’s west entrance and a popular destination for children of all ages seeking frozen sweets and smoothies. Info: corwinsicecream.com
